Crisis Intervention
What can crisis resolution and home treatment contribute to acute care?

Date: Wednesday 14 May 2008
Venue: ORT House Conference Centre, London, NW1

Quick and appropriate levels of response to a crisis at any time, day or night, have long been a main priority for users of mental health services. The Department of Health recognised this need as a central function of a 21st century mental health service within the National Service Framework. So, nearly 10 years on, we need to fully appreciate what crisis resolution home treatment (CRHT) teams are actually doing… is it what was intended, and how do they relate to the wider picture of service provision, particularly within the specialism of acute care? The National Audit Office undertook a study in 2007 to investigate the clinical and economic effectiveness of CRHT teams; the results highlight many areas of good practice, but with further scope for improvement.

Aims of the conference

• Highlight the key messages from the National Survey (2005) and National Audit Office Study (2007)
• Consider the influences on national policy
• Promote the service user’s voice within development of acute care services
• Highlight development needs within local services
• Present local examples of good practice in CRHT and acute care development

Who should attend?

• Practitioners, managers and service managers within CRHT teams and acute in-patient services
• Practitioners interested in acute care
• Service users and carers with an interest in what crisis and acute care services are offering
• Staff of other teams and agencies who work alongside acute care services (eg. community mental health teams, assertive outreach teams, voluntary sector agencies providing accommodation and support for people in acute distress)

Delegate Rates

• Standard rate (central government/private sector organisations) £295 + VAT (£51.63) Total £346.63
• Reduced rate (public sector/educational/charitable/NHS/local government/voluntary organisations) £255 + VAT (£44.43) Total £299.63
• Supported rate (unwaged/student/small voluntary sector organisations) £195 + VAT (£34.13) Total £229.13
